1. Why salt air and typhoons change the choice

Many Philippine homes, resorts and farms sit close to the sea. Galvanised iron rusts first around screws and laps, and a rusted hole is where a typhoon gust starts lifting the sheet. ASA/PVC has no metal to corrode, so the fixing points stay sound year after year.

Purlin spacing

Our general limit is under 700 mm, with 660 mm for normal sites. On coasts and hilltops facing typhoons, use 440 mm so every sheet has more fixing lines.

Screws

Use 5 screw sets per m² with ASA caps and rubber washers, plus extra screws along the eave line, ridge and gable ends where wind suction is highest.

Laps and direction

Lay sheets starting from the end away from the prevailing wind, so each side lap faces downwind.

Frame

The sheet is only as strong as the purlins and trusses; check that rafters are tied down to the walls.
